Ballymacnab 0-10 St.Patrick's 1-09

St.Patrick's Cullyhanna were the visitors to a very blustery Pairc na Gael on Sunday afternoon in the Senior League. In a tight fought game, were a defining score could prove to be all important. A definitive score came in the form of a goal, going to the visitors just before the interval as the eventually ran out victorious on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-09.

St.Pats got off to the best start, registering three early points in quick succession as both sides tried to adapt to the wind, blowing across the field. Gavin McParland got his side off the mark on the 7th minute and a point by Pauric Gribben quickly followed. St.Pat's hit two pointed frees before a long range effort from James Gray reduced the deficit. On the 17th minute Ballymacnab had a half chance for a goal when the St.Pats 'keeper failed to deal with a high kicked ball. Gavin McParland pounced on the opportunity and although his initial shot was blocked down, he sensibly fired over a point at the second chance. With Ballymacnab now gathering some momentum, Joe Gribben fired over a point to level the game on the 18th minute and two minutes later Brian McCone converted a 30 meter free to give his side the lead for the first time. The visitors hit back with two points in between another long range effort from James Gray. Two minutes before the interval the only goal of the game went St.Patrick's way, to give them a lead of 0-7 to 1-07 at the break.

A Brian McCone point from a free a minute into the restart brought the game back to a two point game. As the game progressed another Brian McCone pointed free in between two points for the opposition left three between the sides by the 40th minute. Missed opportunities by both sides left the margin remain but on the 49th minute St.Pats had a chance to double their lead when they were awarded a dubious penalty but an excellent save from Sean Hughes kept the 'Nab alive. A pointed free for Brian McCone left two between the sides but unfortunately this proved to be the last score as St.Patrick's left with the league points.
